Our Mission

To establish a collective understanding of the standards, qualifications and accreditation requirements for educational translators and interpreters of spoken languages with the goal of enhancing English Learner family engagement, student achievement, and meaningful home-school connections.  

Our Vision

   To support language access and language justice in early childhood and K-12 educational settings through highly qualified and nationally accredited educational translators and interpreters of spoken languages. 

Core Beliefs and Commitments

NAETISL believes that English Learner students, families and the educators that support them, should have access and be able to recognize professional, highly qualified, and nationally accredited educational translators and interpreters of spoken languages. 

NAETISL acknowledges and communicates the complex challenges and essential roles of educational translators and interpreters of spoken languages, and their impact on family engagement and student achievement in early childhood and K-12 educational settings.

NAETISL promotes the professionalism of educational translators and interpreters of spoken languages in early childhood and K-12 settings, by identifying and evaluating the academic and professional credentials required to attain and maintain a national accreditation in the field. NAETISL establishes and disseminates the high standards of ethical practices and professional integrity that continually enhance the quality of services provided by educational translators and interpreters of spoken languages.

NAETISL advocates for English Learner families, school districts, school administrators, teachers, educational translators and interpreters of spoken languages, and other community stakeholders by promoting standards, measuring program quality, and establishing best practices.
